Kausani is hill station which lies near Bagesghwar district in Uttarakhand. It is known for its scenic beauty  and its stunning 300 km-wide panoramic view of Himalayan peaks including Trisul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli.

 

There are very few places in the Himalayas whose beauty comes as close this place.This is place where you can just take selfies and selfies for its scenic splendor and its stunning 300 km-wide panoramic view of the Himalayas, a window to the snow-crested Trishul, Nanda Devi, Nandakot and Panchchuli peaks.

 

With an area total of 5.2 sq. Located 51 km north of Almora, at an altitude of 1890 m above sea level, Kausani is the birthplace of the famous Hindi poet, Sumitra Nandan Pant, who wrote some of his memorable poems praising this paradise on earth.

Kausani has no airport or its own railway station. Hiring a cab or hopping on a bus that frequently starts  from New Delhi is the most convenient way to get to Kausani.

 

  • By Flight:

The closest airport to Kausani, almost 160 km away, is Pantnagar Airport. One can easily get taxis from airport to Kausani… The closest major airports are in Dehradun and New Delhi, however.

  • By Road

Kausani is well connected with roads with major cities in North India .From Anand Vihar terminal buses can be easily taken for Almorah and kathgodam. Kausauani is well connected with buses from major cities in Kumaon region. Taxis are easily available. Total distance is around 411 km from Delhi and can be covered in around 11 hours.

How to reach Kausani by train

The closest railway station to Kausani is Kathgodam, 132 km away. There are frequent trains to this area, well connected to other major cities, such as Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata. A bus or taxi from Kathgodam to the desired destination is easy to use.

 

Local transport in Kausani

Travelling can easily be done inside the town of Kausani by hiring a local taxi. Make sure you have knowledge about the attractions and fairs held in the town in advance. Plan your travel according to the weather in Kausani, arrange a trip in May or June if you don’t like harsh winters.

The best months for visiting Kausani are April to June. Kausani is covered with sheets of snow between the months of December and mid-February.

What to buy from Kausani:

There is not much to buy in Kausani. You Can go and check shops at Mall road which sells bags, quilts, gloves and all these handmade by Sarla Ashram. You can also try Kausani local tea which gives various varieties are there. You can try same from Puran Singh tea shop and you can also buy home Girias Uttaranchal Tea from the Anand and Sons store.

You can also buy jams,chutneys and pickles. You can also buy woollen articles made from  Angora Rabbit wool, are what can be bought mainly from here. These are highly refined and fine wool. These wool garments are very comfortable and warm to wear.

  • Activities

Rudradhari Falls and Caves:

Rudradhari falls is situated on Kausani Almora road at approximately 12km from Kausani. The name is a combination of lord shiva and lord Vishnu name. This waterfall is surrounded by paddy fields and pine trees. Someshwar temple is very close to this fall. So at on ego you can cover both the locations. While you are trekking for this waterfall you will see many small caves and shrines which one should go .

Gwaldam:

Gwaldam is small town located in Garhwal which is covered with apple orchards and best part it offers fascinating view of Nanda devi peak. What we feel special is this place is not full of tourist an dis only 38 km from Kausani. Ideally you should spend 1 day at least here. There is 3 km trek to Badhangarhi temple and on its way you will find waterfalls ,flowers and birds .Its a must go place on this list.

Roopkund trek also starts from here. This place is also popular as trekker’s paradise as all popular trek starts from here only.
