Its not a hill station. Its a box of stories….Mussoorie is hills station in Dehradoon district of Uttarakhand. Although its very close to State capital but weather wise …feel wise its totally different. It is about 40 KM from Dehradoon and around 50 min drive depending upon traffic not on road but when you reach Mussoorie is situated a height of 2005 Mtr above sea level. Landour which is also called as greater Mussoorie has a highest point at 2275 Mtr above sea level.

Moment you reach here you will see why this small place is called Queen of Hills..

 

 

History Of Mussoorie:

The name of this city is derived from name of shrub called Mansur found at this place. From Mansur it became it became Mansuri to finally Mussoorie. This place also became quite important as in 1959 of Tibetan Revolution Dalai lama when came first to India took shelter here only for 1 year before moving to Dharmashala. There are around 7000 Tibetans living in Mussoorie today also.

 

Location and climate:

If you are coming from NCR and hill station is on you mind Mussoorie comes to mind automatically. It is almost 291 km from Delhi which just takes 6 hours to reach there. Placed at a height of around 2000 mtr at foothills of Himalayas. For us it’s a hill station but ask any people in Dehradoon they consider it as a hangout place which is always within their reach. We people of Metropolitan goes to malls for fun…but all these lucky souls of hills of Dehradoon have a place like Mussoorie just in their vicinity.

Road condition are very good…you will not even find any bad stretch on this road.. there can be traffic here and there but overall good roads.

 

 

How to reach:

Mussoorie has a hill station has lots of advantages. Biggest merit is its proximity to NCR making it easily accessible by all modes.

How to reach By Air:

The nearest airport to Mussoorie is Dehradun’s Jollygrant Airport. There are direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Dehradun. From Dehradun, local taxis or buses can be rented to get to Mussoorie. Alternatively, visitors can fly to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is the second closest airport to Mussoorie and has decent air connectivity to the rest of India, and then travel from there.


How to reach by Train::

Nearest railway station is Dehradoon which is about 30 km from Mussoorie. There are direct trains from Delhi like Shatabdi Express, Mussoorie Express or Nizamuddin AC Special .The best train is Shatabdi Express as it only takes 5 hour and you are there. Once you come out of station there are various ways to reach Mussoorie. Either you can book a cab from there or you take a bus or you can book a shared cab too. It used to start from Delhi around 3:30 and reaches Dehradoon by 9 Pm. Without much hassle you can reach there.

 

How to reach by Road:

Dehradoon which is very close is one of the greatest advantage for this place. Dehradoon is well connected to state highways and with neighboring cities. Also since the distance is not much from Delhi its only about 282 km so its very easy to come Mussoorie. You can get Buses from ISBT Kashmiri gate and it takes about 10 hours to reach this place. If you travel by car you can easily reach here in 8 hours as Highways are very good. Also best part when you come by road last stretch by reaching Dehradoon is all forest for about 20 Km which is very beautiful and you will enjoy that.

Over all Roads are very good and you wont find any major bottle neck here..

Best months are March to June or early July. weather is pleasant over here. Also in winters for last 2-3 years there is continues snowfall here. So if you are lucky you can get a chance …and that can be in end of Dec or Jan 1st week.

Road Conditions:

Over all road condition you will be  good except few patches before entering Dehradoon…but overall it’s a good stretch ….Road condition in over all Uttarakhand is good.
